A participative piece with Krump dancers

Who owns the stage? Four Krump dancers ask themselves this question and take the audience into the spotlight. Krump is a dance style that has only recently appeared on stage. It originated as an Afro-diasporic dance culture on the streets of L.A. and is based on a rebellion against social inequality and discrimination. For many dancers, Krump is still a refuge and family substitute. The Krump community is about cohesion, showing up and supporting each other.

Choreographer Janne Gregor transfers this self-empowering approach of Krump into the theater space and breaks up the usual hierarchies between audience and performers. In close exchange with students, a vivid choreography is created live. Dance becomes a means of communication, each performance a unique experience that makes it possible to discover why you just cannot avoid dancing.
