Venue: Podewil
The choreographer Joy Alpuerto Ritter brings the characters of the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz back to life, presenting an urban reinterpretation of the beloved American children’s tale.
Dorothy and her friends—the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Lion—encounter one another through various dance styles and embark on a movement-based journey down the “yellow brick road.” Hip-hop, breaking, and modern dance blend seamlessly with contemporary dance in a powerful, virtuoso performance centered on the search for home. The world-famous cinematic musical transforms into an urban dance fairy tale, exploring the art of saying no and the journey of self-discovery in times of crisis.
